Estate energy that saves meaningful cost without a tradeoff for residents.

It is now possible for estates to manage their energy in a way that saves meaningful cost without a tradeoff for residents. We provide an integrated solar and battery backup solution for the whole estate designed to reduce electricity costs, subject to performance, usage and agreed tariffs.

Integrated system

Solar panels on common property supply all residents equally via hybrid inverters and lithium batteries

Potential savings

Potential savings depend on usage, system performance and agreed financing terms

Reduces cost over time

Fixed tariff increases via PPA or rent-to-own financing consistently undercut Eskom's annual hikes

No tradeoff

Household billing identical whether drawing from solar, battery, or grid - no behaviour change needed

HOW IT WORKS

One centralised system. Power for every home.

Solar panels installed on common property feed a central inverter and battery system. Power flows through the estate switchboard to every unit and common area automatically with no change to how residents experience electricity.

Solar generates

Panels on common property produce power during daylight and charge the battery system continuously

Battery stores

Lithium batteries store excess solar energy and provide 4 to 6 hours of backup power through the night

Residents receive

Every unit receives clean power seamlessly through the estate switchboard. Billing stays simple regardless of source

WHY CENTRALISED

One shared system delivers far more than individual installations ever could.

A centralised estate system achieves economies of scale that individual installations simply cannot. Every resident benefits from infrastructure that would cost two to three times more to replicate unit by unit.

01

2 to 3x lower cost

The same solar savings and battery backup time at two to three times lower cost compared to individually installed systems

02

No deposit required

Deposit-free PPA or rent-to-own financing over 5 or 10 years, structured specifically for body corporates

03

Common property savings

Reduces electricity costs across common property as well as individual units, lowering overall scheme expenses

04

Quality and safety

Professional quality control, ongoing maintenance and significantly reduced fire risk compared to individually managed systems

05

Estate security maintained

Common property backup ensures access control, security systems and lighting remain powered during outages

06

Whole house backup

Backup power is supplied to the entire household not just essential circuits, so residents experience no disruption

No roof space conflicts

Avoid complicated allocation and maintenance issues over roof space and servitude rights. The centralised system sits on common property, managed by SolaFi, with no disputes between owners.

SMART MANAGEMENT PLATFORM

Complete visibility and control. For trustees and residents alike.

Ember was built by the SolaFi team to solve a problem no existing software could - managing shared solar infrastructure fairly across multiple residents in a sectional title scheme. It gives trustees full estate oversight and every resident transparent real-time visibility of their own energy usage and billing.

Live estate dashboard
Real-time solar generation, battery level, grid status and total load visible to trustees at all times
Resident app
Every unit owner sees their own consumption, billing history and current battery allocation on their phone
Outage notifications
Automatic alerts when the grid goes down, with live battery time remaining sent directly to owners
Smart automations
Load shedding schedules, weather forecasts and time-of-use tariffs feed into automatic battery optimisation

WHAT EMBER MANAGES

Energy Automation

Ember connects live to load shedding schedules, weather forecasts and time-of-use tariffs to automatically optimise when batteries charge and discharge.

Load shedding automations
Weather based charging
Time-of-use peak shaving
Active load curtailment

Metering and Billing

Digital meters replace analogue readings entirely. Every unit is metered individually with prepaid or postpaid billing, time-of-use rates and fair battery allocation managed automatically.

Live consumption per unit
Prepaid and postpaid billing
Digitised meter readings
Fair battery allocation

Geyser Management

Geysers are the largest single load in any home. Ember automatically switches geysers off during load shedding and peak tariff periods, saving up to 42% on geyser costs in winter.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions trustees ask us most.

Everything a body corporate needs to know before making a decision. If your question is not here, request a review and we will answer it directly.

FINANCIAL

None at all. The scheme pays nothing to get started. No deposit, no special levy and no debt or liability on the body corporate balance sheet. It is structured as a service contract not a loan so it does not appear as debt on your financials.

No. Residents pay for the energy they use at a rate that is lower than the current Eskom tariff. There is no additional cost and no behaviour change required. Actual savings depend on the agreed tariff, consumption and system performance.

We offer a deposit-free Power Purchase Agreement or a rent-to-own structure over 5 or 10 years, both designed specifically for sectional title bodies corporate. Tariff increases are fixed and predictable, and consistently lower than Eskom projected annual increases.

COST AND SAVINGS

Two to three times cheaper for the same solar savings and battery backup time. The economies of scale from a single shared system are significant. One large inverter and battery bank costs far less per kilowatt than multiple small residential units.

Yes. The estate switchboard powers common property including lighting, access control, lifts and security systems from the same solar and battery system. This reduces the body corporate electricity account directly, separate from resident savings.

Savings may begin after commissioning. Their timing and amount depend on consumption, system performance, tariffs and the agreed financing terms.

THE SYSTEM

No. The system switches automatically between solar, battery and grid. Household billing stays exactly the same whether power is coming from panels, batteries or Eskom. There is no change to plugs, appliances or circuits.

Their existing systems integrate perfectly. The estate switchboard is designed to accommodate homes with existing solar or UPS systems and the two operate without conflict. Residents with their own systems can choose to use estate power or their own.

Backup duration depends on usable battery capacity, state of charge and the loads supplied. Load management can extend runtime; your assessment will set out the proposed backup capacity and limitations.

RISK AND MAINTENANCE

Responsibilities, performance obligations and any costs depend on the selected agreement. Review its maintenance, payment and risk provisions before committing.

Comprehensive maintenance and insurance is included throughout the agreement period. This covers the solar panels, inverters, batteries, metering hardware and the Ember platform. We handle everything end to end.

Significantly lower than individual home installations. Our centralised systems use commercial-grade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with built-in battery management systems, housed in dedicated enclosures with proper ventilation and fire suppression. Professional installation and ongoing monitoring dramatically reduce risk compared to dozens of separate residential units.
